About You
It was a fantatstic programme, and as the name implies, a fantastic insight into teacher and it has helped me to make a more informed decision about my future.
The Teach First staff were really friendly and very helpful. They valued our input and wanted to give us a tailored experience.
You had to be quite independent to get yourself around the city and to the schools, but during the day, the Teach First people were very supportive, the school not so much.
I am now well-informed about what challenging schools are actually like and what is expected of me so that I know what I am heading into on the Teach First programme. All the skills I learnt will be extremely useful.
The Company
Perfectly. Mini-teacher training, followed byb a stint in the schools and then a reflection morning,
Hardworking, full on, freindly with Teach First, awkward in the school, but overall it was non-stop and really rewarding.
We did mini-teacher training so they prepared us.
Other than actually having to teach a class day in, day out, I now actually understand what it would be like. It was intense and I learned a lot, but you do have to take notes to get the full benefit.
We were taught by Teach First and they always tell you the organisations story so we understood the company culture well.
Completely valuable, all my experiences have informed my future.
Everything Else
We had travel (to, from and during), accomodation and food expenses paid for, which I believe was very fair and generous of the charity, they had to raise money to pay for those needing accomodation, so I feel very lucky they paid for my expenses.
Yes, we meet many different teach first ambassadors who did the training.
No, because we were there to learn about being a teacher and go into schools, not circulate with the company outside the placement.
I guess, teach first teachers often get involved in after school clubs.
Yes, but only if you are prepared to work hard and to be shocked by the satte some schools are in or the life some pupils have to lead.
