    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at Vauxhall this year has been a great start to the world of work. Working for a multinational company, I had an insight into what makes a business work and had opportunities to explore out of my field. The car industry is an exciting place to be and I definitely would consider a career in the sector in the future.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team was really supportive of everything I did, and tried to get me involved as much as possible.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support from my manager has been fantastic. If I had an idea that I felt could work, the team was not only all ears but also encouraged me to develop them and pointed me in the right direction. We had weekly catch-ups, Who Am I presentations, and CAP reviews which all helped me to keep on track with my objectives.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Monday mornings were always a struggle! However, they were always a very productive day. By the end of the week, things would calm down, easing you into the weekend

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, which increased as the year went by. You realise that without you being there, your job just wouldn't get done.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The year was a real eye-opener to what career I want to pursue when I leave Uni. Previously, I had no experience in PR, and like most people, didn't know what PR was all about! Although it hasn't directly assisted my degree, I feel like I can combine the two to pursue a career that I will really love.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As I got to know more people around the office, the atmosphere for me was friendly and supportive. If there was a major project deadline coming up however, the office was quite a stressful place to be. The general work environment was respectful though, and every one was treated equally.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The undergraduate placement at Vauxhall is a very well-organised placement, and is an integral part to the business. There were opportunitys to recieve extra training if I wanted it, and undergraduates provided a network across the business to bring people close together.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The investment in me has been fair, and I have been encouraged to go to industry workshops on improving my skills. In-house, there have been opportunities to improve my Excel and Presentation skills, which will help me in whatever I do in the future.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love the oppotunity to come back, but in this economic climate there doesn't seem much chance of this happening.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene couldn't have been much better for a placement year. There are over 60 undergraduates in my office, so there was always a 21st going on!

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home, so saved a reasonable amount from being spent on food etc. Going out is fairly cheap, although being near London it is never going to as cheap as the North.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Luton was average. But you have St Albans/Watford 20minutes away which are great nights out. Plus you are in central London within 45mins, so there's always that!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are football sessions every Tuesday and Friday, plus trips away organised via the employee engagement progamme.

    4/5
