About You
While challenging (first time teaching in schools) it was very enjoyable and rewarding
we were checked up on while on placement at our school sites to ensure we were ok there, this was very valuable
lots of guidance and information sessions before teaching, help preparing our lessons was very useful
interview skills were very helpful, useful preparation for the assessment centre and for future interviews (eg STAR structure for responses
The Company
structure to sessions before placement in schools, and we were told what to expect when we got to the scool
good atmosphere, everyone worked well in their teams
we were prepared for the assessment centre, and fast-tracked through the screening process to an interview, it felt as though teachfirst really wanted us to work for them, which was very encouraging
it was more of an experience placement, however the timings (9-5) were typical of a full-time job, as were the lessons we taught in schools. at my school placement were were made to feel like part of the staff - helping other teachers with tasks as well as teaching our scheduled lessons.
lots of explanation of the teachfirst vision and what it means to work at the company.
i was already fairly certain of what i wanted to do (teaching) however this made me even more sure.
Everything Else
expenses were very easy to fill out and were reimbursed quickly
During training week and placement we met many employees of teachfirst, both in a teaching and non teaching setting. i found their experiences very helpful.
we were encouraged to keep in touch with the teachers at our placement schools, and it was very helpful to talk to them about their experiences with teachfirst
talking to teachfirst teachers and other graduates of the teachfirst program allowed me to see that while teaching is a demanding job, there is still time for a social life.
i think the insight placement is a great way to explore teaching as a profession - not many placements offer the opportunity to teach first hand
