About You
It was a fantastic experience with enthusiastic staff and a great atmosphere with the other candidates that you got to know very quickly. The school placements offered invaluable experience and training was excellent and was insightful to a career with Teach First.
I felt very encouraged by all the staff and they were very supportive about helping with the application to the development programme. They were all very honest about their experiences and happy to offer advice.
I feel like the staff were very supportive and we were given clear schedules and support materials to help us with our learning.
I feel I have had a great experience and it has certainly encouraged me for a postition in teaching. It was really insightful in how the career will be very demanding but also very rewarding, and I feel I have more knowledge on Teach First's goals and ethos.
The Company
The programme was structured very well from the initial application, the information and support provided after acceptance and throughout the two weeks. The timetables were very clear for the week and we all knew where we were supposed to be and what we would be learning about in the day.
It was a great general atmosphere on the programme. we all got to know each other very quickly and I felt like it was a great way to meet new people with similar attitudes and bond. There was the opportunity to do tasks in varying group sizes and mix around with new people. The staff were extremely friendly and treated us respectfully and really got involved with us at our level.
The company invested alot making sure we all felt prepared to apply to the graduate scheme and really supported us through the application process.
I think it was a great experience learning about what it would be like being a Teach First teacher but I would have liked more time in the schools and more opportunities to teach in the schools as I only had one lesson where I was in control.
It was really helpful on the programme learning about Teach First and it's values and the problems of educational disadvantage. I think I am very familiar with the values and am excited to be a part of the movement.
I think the content was great in understanding how Teach First can benefit my career path and open doors for other opportunities aside from teaching. I feel like Teach First is a great starting point to develop skills from the challenges you face in the classroom to other sectors and will be great in rounding you for any career, be it in education or not.
Everything Else
Reimbursed for travel and given lunch during the training week and a lunch allowance when I was at school. Even sampled a school dinner on the first day!
We were able to chat to staff everyday who had all gone through the development programme themselves and who could offer great advice about what to expect and their experiences. We met more senior figures in the company too to hear about where the company aims to be in a few years.
There was the opportunity to go for drinks with the staff and other participants during the training weeks and the other participants arranged to socialise during the whole 2 weeks.
We were given lots of information about summer placements and other work opporunities that we can get from Teach First. Ambassadors managed to give a more personal insight about what they did when they were on the development programme about who they lived with, what they did in their summer holidays etc.
I had such a great time and have already been encouraging my friends to look into the LDP with Teach First as I have had such a positive experience so far.
