About You
Very enjoyable, but tiring.
Everyone at the office were very welcoming. The teachers we worked with at the school also made us feel like valued members of staff.
They provided lots of help with applications and assessment centres. there was always someone to talk to and willing to help.
I feel much more confident about speaking to different kinds of people and standing up for what I believe. As I will be doing the LDP in 2014, the insight programme has provided me with skills I will be using in the future.
The Company
We were given a timetable showing what we would be doing and where we needed to be.
There was always a friendly, fun atmosphere around other insighters and I made some great friends.
They really wanted us to succeed in the programme and also to progress onto the LDP and so they really invested a lot of time in us.
Being in london it gave me a good understanding of what it would be like to have to comute every day. Also, we had the responsibility to organise and plan our lessons so it gave a great insight into what it would actually be like to be a teacher.
The company seems very friendly and welcoming. They really do want you to succeed, so aslong as you meet the criteria they will want you on board.
It cemented my decision to get onto the LDP. without insight I would be wondering if it was definately for me, but now i know that it is.
Everything Else
Teach First is a charity so I didnt expect to be paid. It is such a wonderful experience and you get so much from it that money is irrelevant. All expenses were paid though which was really helpful, especially being in london.
Different employees took sessions and gave talks so we met lots of people, all with there own stories and views. There were lots of time to speak to them privately aswel.
There were opportunities to meet up with other insighters but I didnt do this.
Basically, you can be as involved as you want. There are opportunies to do sport and other activities.
It it an excellent opportunity for people wanting to teach. I personally didnt want to teach before speaking to a teach first employee but then was completely inspired. It is a great way of testing the water before diving in. Honestly, its a lot of hard work but it pays off and you have a great time.
