The Role
Enjoyable and educating but not something I will pursue in future.
Despite being very corporate, I was welcomed into the organisation and feel like my work here was valued.
Working closely with both of my managers, I developed a good relationship allowing me to discuss any issues as and when they arrived with no fear.
At no point was I ever empty-handed however work was generally schedule based and therefore there were times when workloads were considerably lighter.
I was entrusted with certain tasks and those where responsibility was handed over in larger amounts meant that I took more pride in these areas and produced some of my best work.
Some uses of academic theory and learning were useful however other instances from daily life were also helpful and common sense was essential.
The Company
The environment tended to be more formal than other areas of the organisation.
The placement was well organised and the only organisational flaws were on the part of my university and not of my placement.
I have been offered further work with this company, albeit in a different area to that directly linked to my placement.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
I have a job with this organisation however this is something that I can undertake on the side of my degree however the prospect of getting a graduate based job is relatively slim due to the current financial crises.
The Culture
There were no other students within the organisation and due to the location of most staff members there was very little in terms of a social scene. A Christmas party was the highlight!
Based on where I lived, the wage I received and my outgoings in terms of travel costs and bills, there wasn't much left to play with at the end of the month. I was grateful that I still received my student loan.
I lived 10 miles from my placement and the social scene here was better than elsewhere. Pubs were cheap and a good place to go and watch the football at evenings/weekends.
Despite being a BOC social club, the only opportunity to get together socially was for 5-a-side football which was on an inconvenient day. I did join a local gym where I made some friends who I could socialise with outside of work hours.
