The Role
Such a fantastic interneship programme, although it only lasted 10 days the amount that was fitted in was outstanding. Gained some really great skills out of it and it really made me realise that the Teach First programme was for me.
Whilst in the Teach First offices in London, everyone was so welcoming and approachable. Staff would take time out from their busy schedules to make sure we were ok and to answer any questions we had.
We were incredibly supported by the people leading the programme. We had great preparation before going into the schools and whist in the schools we had constant feedback and contact with the office team to ensure everything was going well,
We were very busy and on the go all the time, but this was great, it is the only proper way to experience what it would be like working withe Teach First. We did have to put work in outside of work hours, but again, something a Teach First participant has to do and it was great to see how much we could cope with when we needed to. A really good insight!
We were given a fair bit of responsiblity whilst in schools to come up with our project, we created a homework project for year 9, we were given a brief by the teacher and some gudance along the way but everything we came up with was our ideas and creativity.
So many skills were developed in this programme, we had behaviour management workshops, STEM workshops, TeachFirst information sessions, lesson planning help, sooooo much was fitted into such a small amount of time, it was intense but brilliant!
The Company
Only spent 3 of the days in the office, then the rest at our placement school. office atmosphere was amazing, really friendly and comfortable. The school atmosphere was also great, we were very welcomed in the school and all the staff were very approachable.
Well set up considering the programme hadnt been running long. There was a lot for us to do and things were very well set up and coordinated with the school
so many different workshops and training events were provided for us, and constant support thoughout was given
At the end of the intership we attended an Assessment Centre, I was successful and I start my job with Teach First in June :-)
The Culture
Most of the students on teh placement stayed at the same hostel provided by Teach First, this was really good as we got to know each other and got to do things together out of work.
Transport, accomodation and all food expenses were paid for by Teach First, the extra stuff, we were in central London, so not too cheap.
Really good nightlife, intership was exhausting though so we didnt get to experience too much of it
There are always talks, presentations and seminars with Teach First, even now we have finished the placement so there is always lots to do if you want to get involved.
