    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This was a perfect placement for the 3 months I was home from university, the marketing team were very welcoming as was everyone else at the company.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was instantly made to feel an equal member of the team and recieved regular feedback on any projects I completed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was able to ask for advice or help with anything I needed without being made to feel I was interrupting someone else. I had a regular meetings with my manager to see how I was getting on.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the work I completed was project based, I tended to go from a couple of weeks of being busy to a day or to with not much to do. There were always smaller jobs that I could help other members of the marketing team out with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The first big job I was given was to produce a presentation on some of the regional markets for ceramics that my head of departement would be presenting to at a board meeting. While I had lots of support I knew that this was an important job and it was good to be given this responsibility so early in my placement.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am studying for a degree in Economics, working in the marketing department of a global firm allowed me to see things from a much different perspective. The placement has rounded my whole view on how a company operated. During the placement I feel that my self confidence increased and also my time management. I now see that 4 hours of lectures in a block is not actually a lot whereas in first year it as difficult to hold concentration through all of them.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a good balance of talking and working, all of the people in the office were easy to get on with.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No formal investment in training and development, however I was only at the company for 12 weeks. I know that if I needed to find something out there was always someone to ask and in those 12 weeks I went from knowing very little about the actual functions of the marketing departement to knowing a lot about that department and the business as a whole.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I feel that I made a good impression and I have been told that should I require any furthur placement work while home from university the door is always open. The company would be a great place to work full time however my current ambitions will hopefully take me to the financial sector.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were two other placement students that I know of and had regular contact with, one was in my office and the other worked in IT. We often went for a drink after work and went out a few times for parties etc.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived with my parents so I found it very cheap, in terms of socialising I would say not too expensive Birmingham and Worcester are quite close for things to do.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Travel is required for a good nightlife however this is quite cheap and Birmingham, Worcester, Hereford etc are great nights out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not a lot of outside activities mainly staff birthday parties.

    3/5
