The Role
I was, as expected, quite nervous before starting but I settled in really quickly and the company makes every effort to welcome you.
The rest of the staff, even up to the partners, were (for the most part) approachable and it was good to get involved with all of their social activities too - you get to interact with them in a non-work environment which really helps.
Any questions I had were answered promptly and I was introduced to what I was doing well by the supervisors on the jobs I worked on.
There were a few times where there was no more work for me to complete, as I had finished my assigned jobs and it would have meant another member of the teams taking time out to teach me something when they themselves were incredibly busy.
The level of responsibility was really up to how independent you were. If I wanted to go and meet the client myself then I would do, likewise I am sure there are people who are nervous to begin with in meeting the client and want to shadow a meeting. I would recommend throwing yourself in the deep end - they've all been there at one point or another.
So far so good. I am taking a module based exactly on the sort of things I was learning during my internship. It has also helped my work ethic, as the hours and work I put in at PwC were quite extensive.
The Company
It was appropriate given the situation, fun when it had to be and heads down when not.
They are obviously well drilled in running internships so no queries here.
They invest a lot in their interns as the internship is also a sales pitch by them - promoting the opportunity to work for their company.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
I got a job offer so cannot complain! There is an approximate success rate of 95% in terms of converting internships to graduate positions.
The Culture
There were only a small amount of us on the internship so it was limited but we did meet up and all get along.
The cost of living was free for me as I stayed at home, socialising in terms of sport was free within PwC as it was all subsidised, as were other company events.
There is quite a range of decent clubs, all on one strip of town.
Yes - I played both football and touch rugby whilst there. Although the summer is a popular time to take holiday so a lot of people were unavailable to organise events.
