The Role
I loved the whole experience - from working for one of the Big Four firms to being in the City, it was enjoyable on so many levels.
From very early on in the placement I found that I didn't feel like "a business placement student" - colleagues treated me the same as they treated everyone else so I didn't feel like I stood out. PwC were excellent at integrating me into the department and making me feel welcome.
I had a strong team of people that I could turn to for assistance and guidance - my People Manager, Buddies and managers on individual projects were all happy to help and nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble. Even when they were busy they always made time to answer my questions.
There was always something to do, and they didn't just make me do photocopying or bring them coffee!
My first project involved a project management role - talk about being thrown in at the deep end! I felt quite honoured that they trusted me enough to take on such a role at the beginning of my placement.
PwC place a strong emphasis on networking and being able to develop these skills during the placement is going to continue to help me in my future career.
The Company
Despite everyone being so busy and having a heavy workload, the atmosphere remained quite relaxed. Managers were great at getting their teams motivated and would often treat us to cakes or, on one project, champagne on a Friday!
The placement itself was well set up and the team had obviously put a lot of planning into the scheme. However we did find that other members in the department seemed unaware of the business placement scheme and why we were there, so a better department-wide awareness would have been good.
Much of the time we were able to undertake the same training courses as the permanent staff. When we first joined the firm we were able to go on a residential course with the new graduates to learn more about the company and to build networks with colleagues, which was useful.

Working from home
PwC are a fantastic company to work for and present so many opportunities. Working for the firm would give me the chance to progress from quite an early stage.
The Culture
Yes, there were 3 other placement students and we all became close during the year. We often organised social activities together as well as taking part in departmental social events with other colleagues.
Very expensive - but luckily I live in Kent and it was close enough to commute.
Working in London meant that there was always something going on so it was easy to arrange evening socials after work.
Yes - within PwC there are lots of volunteering opportunities.
