The Role
PLEASE NOTE: This review was for a placement at General Motors prior to the amalgamation of Vauxhall and General Motors (The RateMyPlacement Team) Variety of work, large placement student community and generally a big company to work for with lots going on.
Generally considered a solid part of the department, not just given mundane jobs to do.
Company does invest in you, guidance from manager and 'buddy'. Plenty of courses / training available.
Lots to get involved in, if you show the drive.
Again depending on your drive, you can get involved with some higher profile projects.
Definitely gained commercial awareness.
The Company
Generally an 'aging' workforce, but there were some social events and people were friendly.
Good scheme, 60+ students.
Enrolled in some in-house courses, given management time for reviews and appraisals.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Currently no graduate scheme due to cut backs in work force, future a little uncertain for GM?
The Culture
60+ students, lots of events to get involved in.
Luton is generally cheap, accomodation around £270-310 per person (including all bills) based on 3/4 placement students sharing a house.
Not great.... cinema, bowling alley etc, town centre is average.. but not much else.
Charity events, gym, etc.
