The Role
I was able to increase my responsibility and job within the council to become incorporated within the wider team of premises rather than just schools.
Everyone was really lovely within the office, always up for a laugh and happy to help with anything i was stuck on.
Everyone was always happy to help and there was always someone within the council who could help, if you could work out who, never the less everyone was always willing to help if they could. my manager was rarely in the office but when he was he was always willing to answer questions or point me vaguely in the right direction.
it depends on the time of year, often it was super hectic, sometimes i have to find odd jobs to do. but there's always something to do if you look hard enough.
dealing with the paperwork rather than having any authority or responsibility of my own however, if i hadn't processed something it wouldn't be done so to be fair a lot of responsibility was on my shoulders to process things quickly and correctly.
unfortunately my placement wasn't directly related to my degree, however I feel I have already developed my organisational skills- timekeeping, prioritising etc. my interpersonal skills have developed too, I feel I can relate on a much more professional level with people, especially when representing the council to the local public.
The Company
Lovely, people are always coming and going, happy to chat and cracking jokes.
Initially quite badly as we were trying to negotiate 'office politics' working out which team I was to fit into primarily and which I was to provide admin support for. But even then, it worked out quite nicely because i had a lot to do and learn in my initial couple of months and not too much responsibility initially.
So far, due to budgets being tight, i have been unable to attend any official training outside of the office, however I have gained experience through all aspects of the properties management teams which is all good experience really.
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
I would be willing to work in the council but maybe within a team that relates closer to my degree, for example a project management or events management team.
The Culture
Unfortunately I was the only student placement student within the council.
Cheap as chips :) offices are really accessible by bus etc
Pretty good, very studenty, possibly a little bit rough in the centre of town.
Christmas do and leaving parties is about it really.
