    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the Vacation Placement. I had a fantastic two weeks! I got involved with a variety of interesting work and met some great people, both in the firm and also on the placement itself.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone in my department was extremely friendly and welcoming. They were more than happy to answer any questions that I had and made me feel like part of the team. I have not got a bad word to say about anyone I met in the firm at all as they were all so welcoming and approachable.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone in my department was more than happy to answer any questions I had. My supervisors and trainee buddy were all very helpful and offered me a lot of great advice on completing the work I was given or on life as a trainee more generally. At the end of the placement my supervisor gave me feedback on the work I had completed which was very helpful for the future. The whole department was very supportive and I could not have asked for more.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I always had work to be getting on with and sometimes more than one task on at once but I was never overwhelmed by work so it was a great balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility as I was completing work that a trainee would be completing. I drafted documents and had to check through documents, but there was always help available if I had any questions about the work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I enhanced a lot of key skills during the placement; time management, communication skills, attention to detail, teamwork, and also experience of what the assessment process is like.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very friendly and approachable and more than happy to come over and have a quick chat. The open plan layout of the office was great and there was definitely a sense of teamwork.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was extremely well organised. We were given a detailed timetable so we knew what was happening each day. On the first day everyone met in the London office for inductions and talks which was very well organised. Nearly every morning (except for assessment days) we had a different practice presentation which were all fantastic and very informative as we received an insight into the other practice areas and could ask any questions we had. All the social events were very well organised as well as other events such as a Partner Lunch and office drinks. There was a slight issue on the assessment day as the assessments were running quite late but we were kept very well informed on the day and so in my opinion it wasn't really a problem.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I thought the placement was extremely well organised and a lot of effort had gone into it so we could get the most out of it as possible. Everyone was extremely welcoming and were more than willing to answer any questions I had or just come over and have a chat. I got an excellent flavour of what it would be like to be a trainee in the firm.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am waiting to hear whether I have received a training contract offer. I would absolutely love one but the competition is very high.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the placement students got on really well and I have met some amazing people. We all went to events organised by the trainees and we also organised a lunch out on the last day. Every day we also tried to all have lunch together in the canteen. There was a great social scene!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The social events were organised and paid for by the firm and the canteen was subsidised so overall it was quite cheap! I just had to pay to commute by bus each day.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leeds has a great nightlife and social scene!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was an opportunity to play hockey one night and we all took part in the social events which included a Pool tournament and Treasure hunt! We also had lunch with a Partner on one day and had office drinks on a couple of evenings.
