    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought it stuck a really good balance between work experience, providing us with information about the traineeship and firm in general and giving us an insight into what it would be like to work there. I think adding in the various social activities throughout the two weeks meant that we were all able to get to know people across the firm and get as many of our different questions answered. It also made for probably a more fun two weeks than I had expected!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone in my team was approachable. Even the partners and people who had plenty of other work to be doing still seemed to have time for some of my stupid questions!

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I got on well with my supervisor and trainees in the team. Between them they gave me good work to do and gave me a lot of their time to talk about it. There were some cases where it would have been nice to have a bit more feed back but I hope that if little was said about the work I had done that nothing was too wrong about it!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had things to do all the time. A couple of people gave me things that I could do over the course of the two weeks as I was free. This meant that there was always something to do even when people weren't coming over and giving me stuff all the time.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think they really did well in giving me more challenging things to do but nothing that put me under too much pressure. They struck a very good balance.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's been a very valuable experience even if I don't end up getting a traineeship out of it. It was a very informative couple of weeks. The wide range of assessments they used will also stand me in good stead for any future interview days I may go to!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was pretty cheery all the time. Most said hello and I had time for a chat with everyone. Obviously, it wasn't a big party all the time so there was time for getting your head down and being more serious. You don't want to distract people from an important deal they are in the middle of.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well structured and we got timetable of all our events and activites for the week so that we knew what to expect. The one problem with the organisation here was that some of us weren't on the mailing list and so missed the updates and further information about the activities we were going to. It all worked out in the end but it would have maybe meant things like meeting for lunches and trains were a bit more straight forward.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They speant a good deal of time in the beginning couple of times giving us inductions to the firm which were particularly useful - especially the IT one. I feel like the whole experience was a bit of an investment in a way as a lot of time was speant with us giving us all the information we will need to determine if this is the place for us. But apart from this, the two weeks was maybe too short to get much more training and development fitted in.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is definitely a top contender but I will have to wait and see what comes of the interviews!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, everyone was great! We had a couple of good nights out and from what I've heard, this only continues as a trainee. I was impressed with the fact that they had sports teams for everyone to get involved in.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It wasn't too bad for me as I go to university in Edinburgh anyway and so I already had accomodation. Compared to London, I don't think I can complain. But as a place to live in Scotland, you have to be a bit more careful here.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I said, I am a student here so I think the night life is pretty good! There's always something happening in Edinburgh!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a couple of sports teams I heard people were playing for. I was also interested in the CSR programmes that they run. I felt there really flexible opportunities to take part in things.
