    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed this fantastic placement year with IBM. Have had full time jobs within similar sectors and have felt this placement has been much like these full time jobs.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Fantastic department to work within, with great support from managers and peers. Really felt valued by everyone within the company who I've interacted with.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Managers have given a great amount of support and guidance, however are happy to pull back and let me do my own thing when wanted. Have found this to be a good style that works well.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The amount of work given to me has been at a good level throughout the year. At very few periods have I felt overwhelmed or underwhelmed by the level of work.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A large amount of responsibility was given to me rather early on within my year. This allowed me to put forward my own ideas and help contribute towards the effectiveness of the department. This meant I have implemented several changes and have worked on several new systems of my own design.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Nearly all the skills learnt in my year will be able to be put to use in my future studies and beyond.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I worked at home for nearly all of the placement year, although this is not overly common.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Seemed to be set up rather well, however I didn't have much interaction with the placement team.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • IBM has a large selection of free and paid training courses for business and personal development, of which I took several.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Working from home meant I had little interaction with other students beyond those within the department, but people working in larger locations have a much better social scene.
