    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Same with all jobs, some days you just couldn't be bothered, but most of the time once I was in the office it was fine and I enjoyed it.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Varied from colleague to colleague - some considered me a normal employee, some considered me "just the placement student".

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • If I wanted to go on courses etc I was usually allowed, and I had a good induction program meeting various people around the site.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • First month was very slow and I had very little work, after that it was generally a nice amount, sometimes a bit too much and sometimes a bit too little.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • 4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Sometimes got quite bitchy... generally there was a nice atmosphere.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Not too well at first, as I didn't have a computer, but a very good induction program had been set up with various meetings arranged (including 4 on one day in Brussels!). I was the first placement student this department had had so I think generally it was ok.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot - I went on several courses for various pieces of software, and I could have gone on more if I'd wanted.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Good organisation (free food at lunch times) with good perks, would go back if the right opportunity arose, a chemicals based company so most of the good jobs are for chemists which is the downside for me.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I met a couple of summer placement students who I've kept in touch with, but don't know any year long placement students.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • After rent, bills, food etc I still had quite a lot of money left over each month... but it's not far from London so it was easy to spend the leftovers.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Royston has no nightlife... near enough to get a train to Cambridge if you can sleep on someones floor which isn't bad.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Joined a couple of sports clubs.

    4/5
