  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a recruitment consultant, I would start my day by creating new adverts for jobs and posting them on the relevant job boards. Once completed, I would then start to review the CV applications which I received overnight and pick out the candidates I believe would match the job role, I would then call / email the candidates to register my interest and book in an interview. The afternoon would mainly consist of running through the compliance for each candidate that had been successful in the interview process, so I would be collecting documents etc for them to pass.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communication Skills: Recruitment involves constant communication with candidates, hiring managers, and colleagues. You'll become skilled in writing clear job descriptions, conducting interviews, and negotiating job offers. Interpersonal Skills: Building relationships is crucial in recruitment. You'll learn to connect with candidates, understand their needs, and establish trust. You'll also need to work closely with hiring managers to understand their requirements. Sales and Persuasion: Recruitment often involves "selling" job opportunities to candidates and candidates to employers. You'll become adept at presenting opportunities in a compelling way and convincing candidates to consider specific positions. Time Management: Recruitment can be fast-paced, with many tasks to juggle simultaneously. You'll learn to prioritize and manage your time effectively. Organizational Skills: Keeping track of candidates, job openings, and all the associated details requires strong organizational skills. Using applicant tracking systems (ATS) can help you stay organized. Problem-Solving: Finding the right candidate can be challenging, and sometimes you may need to think creatively to identify and attract top talent. You'll also need to address issues that arise during the hiring process. Networking: Building a network of professionals in various industries is a significant part of recruitment. You'll learn how to connect with people and use those connections to find the right candidates. Adaptability: The job market and recruitment trends are continually evolving. You'll need to adapt to changes in technology, regulations, and best practices.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • In many cases, the goal of an internship is to provide a learning experience while contributing to the company's work. Therefore, while you might not be given as much responsibility as a full-time employee, you should expect to have tasks and projects that contribute to the organization in a meaningful way. It's essential to have open communication with your supervisor and express your interest in taking on more responsibility if you feel capable and comfortable doing so. This can often lead to opportunities to take on more challenging tasks during your internship.
