    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Representing the university at events and on open days. This could be by delivering campus tours or assisting with a school visiting campus. I have to be approachable and able to answer questions about the university and higher education to help students to make an informed choice about their own education.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communication is a big skill I’ve developed as I’ve had to speak to large groups at once. This has also helped to gain confidence in public speaking.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have been responsible for groups of 10 children during campus tours sometimes but beyond that not much. Most of the organisation and planning is done by others. It would be nice to have students more involved with the planning of these events.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 3/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Not much. For all events we turn up and find out what we’re doing just before doing it. It would be beneficial to receive the brief prior to the event so we can better prepare for the event rather than being thrown in the deep end.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 3/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 3/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The students I work with have a positive attitude which is great. The online booking system isn’t the best as there isn’t the opportunity to swap shifts with other students even if both parties agree as the person in charge of booking the shifts doesn’t allow this. This means some shifts go unfilled when they could have been booked.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the social opportunities?

  • How would you rate the diversity initiatives?

  • How would you rate the charity, sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives?

    Your Impressions
