    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • A typical day would involve completing a variety of tasks for our Line Manager and other team members too for example research tasks, due dilligence, drafting and client calls. We were able to arrange coffees with different people at the firm to further gauge which practice area is best suited to us.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my internship, I was able to develop new skills such as networking, public speaking and commercial awareness. I was also able to develop existing skills such as organisation, time management, teamwork, listening and also analytical skills.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • Through the talks during the week in London to being able to meet and talk with Partners, we were able to learn about DLA’s sector specific approach. We were also able to learn about the wide range of practice areas by having the opportunity to experience two different seats during our internship. Wider roles such as Pro Bono and Corporate Social Responsibility were widely discussed, with access to team meetings available.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture of the firm was very welcoming, friendly and inclusive. Anyone that I spoke to during the internship was more than willing to talk to me and share their experiences at the firm. The office environment was collaborative and a strong team spirit was evident.

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight scheme. I was able to gain invaluable experience in a range of practice areas and also develop new skills, whilst meeting lots of new people through many networking events.

  • To make the most of the networking events and opportunities to meet people. Ensure that you introduce yourself to all team members and ask any questions that you may have. At a firm where an inclusive culture is at its heart, being yourself is most important too!
