    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.

    • A two-day insight into the firm, with all expenses (hotel, travel, food) organised and paid for by DLA. Networked with associates and partners and other attendees, did a mock litigation exercise, learned about the firm's work and culture, got application tips and insider advice for training contract applications, received insight into day-to-day life of a trainee and some of the more niche teams as well as larger practice groups. Staff were lovely. Excellent experience.

    • Yes. Advocacy and research skills improved by mock litigation exercise. Networking skills improved by a personal branding training session. Boosted confidence and gave application advice for vac scheme and training contract applications.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

    • Lovely. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All staff were polite and helpful. Not what I expected from such a large law firm! A real "team" or "family" atmosphere, didn't feel like people were competing with eachother within the company. Can't rate the culture/atmosphere highly enough. From the reception staff to the partners, everyone seemed happy, approachable, and welcoming. Staff took the time to learn my name!

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

    • 10/10. Was shocked at how much I enjoyed it. The best first year scheme I've attended. Useful and fun. Having all expenses paid for was also nice! And the evening social was great too. Can't recommend it enough. All uni students should apply for this programme. Had a lot of fun and made some good friends there!

    • Read the website. Look at their values and their work. Personalise the application to DLA, and also reflect yourself authentically within the application so that it doesn't sound artificial/fake/etc.
