    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Junior Developer, we would get assigned to customer projects to plan and develop a solution for Twilio customers. The day would consist of a team / customer meeting and then building and developing the solution using Twilio or programming in Typescript and React.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to program in Typescript and use React and Twilio products and developed my C# programming skill. I have also learnt how to work in a team and use SCRUM. Overall, I have improved my confidence and presentation skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility in managing the backlog for customer projects and researching new technologies to be used for the project if they are not Twilio related. Depending on the scale of the project, I would be responsible for tasks that involve in developing the solution and these tasks can be small or big.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received a lot of help in a lot of things such as researching and implementing new technologies in the solution for the customer or clarifying requirements with the customer. The support was always available even if the help is not from a developer.

  • There were monthly social events such as board game nights and company social events twice a year. There were also opportunities to create more socials.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time here at Zing, even if the training was over, I was still learning different things on the go. The amount of support from the company was amazing and the variety of new technologies or skills I have learnt was more than I have expected.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Zing
  • Research what Zing does as a company and especially what Twilio is. Be confident and show off the skills that you have learnt already that might be related to the role of a Junior Developer. Practice some programming in Typescript and React and be prepared for working individually or in a team. Do not be afraid to research and learn new things.
