    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On this rotational scheme no 2 days are the same! On the programme you are constantly learning and improving your business knowledge whilst also developing a broad range of personal skills along the way. As a placement student you can expect to perform and learn over 6 core roles within the business and experience the roles of more than 20, all of this in just 11 months!

  • The scheme offers endless opportunities to enhance and develop your skills in both personal and professional terms. From spending days with the Training team and external speakers in your region to being hands on in roles you can be sure to develop key skills that you can carry with you for the rest of your career. Examples include: leadership, organisation management, personal skills and decision making. 'What you put in, is what you get out'

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • The placement scheme includes spending time within stores as you work your way up to a management position. In this position you can expect to lead store teams of more than 5 colleagues and are fully responsible for the smooth and efficient running of your store during your work shift. Other responsibilities include running your own project and assisting senior managers with tasks that are delegated to you.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • As a placement student your line manager will be the Regional Training Manager (RTM) who will support and guide you across your 11 months. The support includes frequent catch ups and goal setting reviews to also helping give you feedback on your progress across your 48 weeks you are within the region.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture across the Lidl GB network is fantastic. In all of the departments in which I was a part of the atmosphere is nothing but positive and the colleagues you work with are a big reason as to why you will enjoy the placement scheme as much as you will do.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • My placement year was extremely enjoyable experience whilst also being a challenging one. This year is like no other and at times it can be hard, however the positives more than out-weight the negative and the support of your colleagues helps you to have as much fun as you can.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Lidl
  • Make sure to do your company research. Your application can really exceed others when it is clear that you have conducted your research. It is also imperative that you tailor and develop your CV and Cover Letter to that of the retail placement role that you are applying. The recruitment and hiring team will take great value in this and it will put you one step ahead of all the other candidates.
