    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Franchise Development team is responsible for the facilities of over 200 Toyota and Lexus UK franchised retailers. Within the team, my responsibilities included: - Leading a full market analysis of Solar Panel suppliers before onboarding a supplier as the Toyota GB “preferred” solar supplier for its UK Network. - Importing over £100,000 worth of Lexus Showroom furniture from the EU. - Liaising with a supplier to produce a new vehicle colour display for customers to use in the showroom. -Raising £2500 for charity by running both a WattBike challenge and Mocktail bar in the Toyota GB Headquarters - Coaching my role replacement over a two week “handover” period.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt a lot about Stakeholder Management and Project Management through exposure to a variety of different projects. I also had opportunity to develop my Presentation Skills both in a classroom environment and in real business scenarios. Working with Microsoft Office every day has made me more comfortable with its use too.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The support and guidance I received from my Manager and Project Mentor was second to none. They would always find time to talk if I needed to go over something. They would also be proactive in suggesting training opportunities they thought would help me. However, although they had good intentions, the support and guidance from the People Team (HR) was poor. There was a lack of communication present which meant it was a struggle getting clear information from them.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is really good, it is a very friendly place to work. The dress code is “dress for your day” which is very relaxed. WFH opportunity is about 2 days a week.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I throughly enjoyed my placement at Toyota GB and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in working in Business but isn’t sure about what area they want to work in specifically as you get exposure to all areas.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Toyota GB
  • Don’t worry if you are not passionate about cars, Toyota GB full of normal people that love the brand but aren’t car nerds! In preparation for your interview, look at the other companies that operate under the OneToyota banner ie. Toyota Financial Services, Toyota Insurance Sevices and KINTO as they are also based at the Toyota GB headquarters and a good knowledge of these will really help you out in the interview and when you join the company.
