    Responsibilities

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was informed by my internship manager to stop one task and prioritise the more important one. I informed my task manager that I will be prioritising one task, meaning I won't be able to complete the other task in time, she disagreed with this and told me I will have to get them both done by the upcoming deadline. I didn't feel supported and was given negative feedback for bringing this up.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Among other interns, the company culture is enjoyable. Some other senior members can be welcoming, kind and informative. Working with some people from other countries can be difficult due to time zones, and differences in opinions over directness, which can be difficult. There isn't much networking with people from different teams.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed that I was able to get lots of experience and learn new skills as well as develop existing ones. Networking with other young individuals is fun and nice as you are able to relate to each other on many levels. Interns are seen as interns and given tasks that others "don't have the time for" so I didn't feel that valued as an employee.

  • 7. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • If you are applying for an internship, you may be given tasks that others just "don't have time for" or ones that don't utilise your own skillsets. Remember that as much as the company would hire you to add value to the business, you should be getting the same value back. If you need support, be sure to reach out to your manager and set expectations.
