    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked in the Data Services Practice in Design and Transformation Technology (D&TT) which is in Business Transformation Services (BTS). I supported the management of the practice and community operations. Facilitating sales and opportunity calls and hosting weekly/monthly all hands calls. I supported the practice leadership (Associate Partners) across the practice in the day to day and strategic running of the practice.

  • Yes, I have developed many skills with a mix of soft skills,business skills and technical skills. To name a few; Python, Cloud Computing (IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure), JavaScript, Leadership, management, teamwork, organization etc.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Personally I was given a large amount of responsibility. This came with time and for me increased with time. For example having to train up a new intern mid placement (as well as handover to replacement intern) and was given client experience on a project and was able to present to a high value client.

  • There were plenty of support systems in place. For me my task manager was suburb and supported me where needed. But there is also support available from your foundation manager and other IBM departments such as HR support.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I have nothing bad to say about IBM. They have a very inclusive culture and generally a positive vibe. Everyone I have come across has been very kind and happy to help.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I immensely enjoyed my placement year. The year has been amazing from living in London, endless learning opportunities for growth, a host of meaningful work that helped me with my career aspirations and plenty of social initiatives to get involved in.
