Overview
Supporting the specific packaging team that I was a part of from a global level. An internally and externally facing role that involves a wide variety of tasks, including creating and assisting in the delivery of saving initiatives, running tenders for new and existing business and defining supplier strategy. The role has a strong emphasis on driving down costs in procurement, whilst also having a focus on sustainable and responsible sourcing. Working cross-functionally with other departments such as R&D, Supply Chain and Brand is also a key aspect of this role, as well as creating and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
Skills
The role calls on the use of transferable existing interpersonal skills such as communication skills, time management skills, organisational skills and team working skills. As well as this, more technical skills such as leadership and analytical skills are also required in order to perform in this role, whether that be for use on global projects or when completing analysis on Excel and Power Bi. The role further enhances these skills, whilst also further developing independence and stakeholder management skills.
Responsibilities
Overall I would say that the placement does provide plenty of responsibility throughout. Whilst at times there wasn't too much responsibility and flexibility in performing a task, this was often due to the nature of the tasks itself. Plenty of responsibility is provided when working on large tenders at a global level, whether that be organising the different steps of a tender, or analysing quotes from suppliers. With this being said, support and advice is always available if needed.
Support & Guidance
There was plenty of support and guidance available throughout the placement
Culture
Very inclusive and welcoming - Everybody that I engaged with was polite and friendly
