    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I’ve been looking after the e-commerce actions, website, social, new product developments, and many other actions for my brand during the placement, including running an external competition on the new product packaging which consumers and creating the T&Cs. I ensure my brand is perfect online and that all the information externally is correct. I also run the micro-influencer campaign for two new product launches for the brand too.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have had the opportunity to further develop multiple employability skills during my placement, such as communication and leadership. However, my biggest opportunity has been to develop my time management and motivation skills. My problem solving and initiative skills have also improved and I have learnt how to better switch mindsets between tasks in a timely and agile way. All these skills will be hugely transferrable in the future.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, when Unilever said we give you huge amounts of responsibility, in my interview I didn't know how true that was but it really is. I have been pushed out of my comfort zone with the amount of responsibility I have been provided which I have loved and thoroughly enjoyed. It's been amazing being involved and at times leading real business issues - the skills I have developed are incredibly beneficial.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Majority of my placement I have felt supported however, at times I have struggled and support wasn't there. For example, my line manager left and I felt unsupported as the exposure I felt to the higher levels of the team was significant. I think a process should be implemented where, HR are flagged a manager is leaving of a placement student and they reach out or ask the team to ensure you are supported.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I love the company culture of Unilever and would recommend the placement to anyone. It's a bubbly and supportive culture and they really look after you as an employee at any level of the company. The events and activities the whole department or smaller teams or offices were involved in were amazing and I will really miss the general atmosphere - Unilever really is a people business.
