    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Aftertreatment installation guidelines, customer interaction and the processing of data from a customer configuration aftertreatment on a tractor application. Multiple ongoing projects, both of which are to do with the tractor customised configuration for the customer. Weekly team meetings take place with colleagues from India and the US as well. Oversee different tasks for the maintenance of the tractor vehicle also.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My presentation skills have definitely improved, it was one of the aspects that I wanted to improve on when I arrived at my placement. My time-keeping has definitely improved also, having to be on-time for meetings across the week and meeting deadlines has been very helpful. I will carry this into my final year at University where this time-keeping will be key to finishing with a strong grade.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given responsibility, I have had multiple projects ongoing throughout my placement, often taking sole responsibility and freedom in what key information and data I have to present back to the team. This has meant that I have to ensure my work is up to the best standard if it is the only information that people may be getting on that specific topic.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have received a lot of help and guidance during my placement, my manager has been teaching me a lot along the way, he goes into a lot of detail when he is explaining how different systems work or the importance of certain components etc. The training was extensive at the start of the placement and it put me in good stead for what was to come; that was helpful.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is very clear from their website, they definitely look after their employees. From putting on lunch parties/BBQs to having treat vans come on to site. Things like this keep up morale and keeps people motivated. Their stance on the environment is also very refreshing, looking into new power applications and investing a lot of money towards it.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Cummins
  • Make sure you do research into the specific role that you have applied for, and also try out the "red day" applications, this is where you can work with another department for a day or 2, this is very helpful in expanding your expertise and getting valuable experience from different departments can widen your knowledge overall. Highly recommend doing this once you are here.
