    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The role can be quite varied as tasks are often driven by the issues faced by the customer. Regular tasks would include maintaining spreadsheet reports which are completed on a either a daily or weekly basis. Must ensure timely response to emails to ensure customer satisfaction and appropriate resolution to issues

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Communication - the role requires frequent professional communication with customers and sometimes other stakeholders. Communicating with senior stakeholders in particular was a valuable experience Data analysis - Maintaining the spreadsheets, but also problem solving required high usage of Excel which has developed my ability to work with data

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was represented multiple customers, some of which were considered large customers ordering thousands of engines a year Additionally, some of the spreadsheets are used by multiple different departments internal and external to the supply chain which resembled a high level of responsibility

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At Cummins typically the placements overlap, so the previous student will work for around a month with the new student to provide training and support. I think this works really well as placement students can usually relate well to each other

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was one of the most appealing factors as it feels like the company values all of its employees. The office was open plan which encouraged collaboration and in general everyone is very supportive and willing to help

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the placement due. I was interested in the job role and was given a good level of responsibility throughout the year. The Customer Services team was great to be a part of and I was able to get involved in multiple social events throughout the year
