    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight programme was 5 days long, with 2 days online and 3 in person. The 2 days online consisted of training and understanding of the FIC and Origination & Advisory Businesses. The 3 in-person days consisted of networking sessions, panels, desk shadowing and a trading game. Days ran roughly from 8:45-18:00 everyday, with the exception of the social event on the second in-person day.

    Skills

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was interesting to see how the overarching divisions of FIC and O&A encapsulate a lot of different teams and skills required. I understood that it is best not to compartmentalise desks or product groups based on their overarching title. This also meant that each desk was very exciting and nuanced, increasing the number of opportunities available.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very entrepreneurial. There is a big focus on innovation and technology, despite being a large bank. This made the atmosphere quite exciting. Every employee I spoke to was very friendly and open to their experiences.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I enjoyed the insight a lot. 8/10. Only criticism is that they ran 4 programmes together at the same time, which made it a bit chaotic at times, and meant that you often could not get a question in when there was panel. In my opinion, they should have run the programmes at separate times, and I would have felt more valued.
