The Role
Loved it! The people here are great!
Couldn't have asked for much more. Was invited to all of the social events, and was very much trusted to do the job I was asked.
Good support from my line manager, although I maybe didn't hear from them that often when I was rotating around other departments. Support from office supervisors was great, however!
I wasn't over worked where it go to the point I needed to work longer hours but nor was I twiddling my thumbs looking for something to do!
As a student I think I had more responsbility than most placement employees as all of my roles were filling vacancies rather than just acting as support to majority of employees.
I have learnt how a hospital functions to the point I think I could work in most NHS trusts. I've also picked up new skills in Excel as I was using that on a day to day basis. I don't think what I learnt here can be applied to my degree though.
The Company
We were able to have a chat whilst working but when deadlines came at the end of the month we were able to be focused too.
It was organised well initially and it was outlined that I would rotate but as departments required my services due to being short-staffed I was in those areas for longer than I should've been, so I was unable to go into some departments.
I had quite a few inductions and training days so I have developed. Also had training days as part of the West Midlands NHS so went to Birmingham for two of those for full days of workshops.
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
The department is undergoing a serious restructure with budget cuts so are unable to employ. I have been told that they would have no hesitation in offering me a job otherwise.
The Culture
There aren't any other placement students here but the social scene is good. Christmas party, leaving do's, birthday nights out. Also play football regularly with a few of the others in the office.
Lived with my mum and dad so the costs of living were low. Have been able to save quite a bit of money to go back to University with.
Not good. No big cities around but I knew this as it was my local area. Still had enjoyable nights but that was mainly to do with the company than the places we were going!
There are a few things to do in the area. My local town where I live doesn't have a cinema or anything like that. We have to travel 20 miles to get any decent shops or activities.
