    • It involved building an application assisting with data analysis insights and predictions using statistical methods.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

    • I have learnt programming in Python from scratch and how to use varying statistical methods for data analysis. I was also provided with training on some financial aspects of my role, resilience and time management as well as presentation skills. Working on a community project throughout the course of the internship enhanced my team-working skills and raised my awareness of some of the social financial issues FCA tackles.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

    • I was given a fair deal of independence in dealing with the tasks assigned to me. What I really appreciate is having been able to work alongside the other Associates with a similar level of responsibility to them. Nevertheless, I was constantly supported by my colleagues and my manager throughout the entire process.

    • I was given preparatory materials to read before each task assigned to me acquainting me with any unknown concepts. My colleagues were always keen to give me a hand with coding or pointing me to where relevant information was.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

    • Everyone was really helpful and keen to grab a coffee and go for a chat about their work or just informally. Senior management works really closely with the other employees and listens to their concerns.

    • I really enjoyed gaining experience in the sphere of data science and being able to learn from people really passionate about it. I felt truly supported throughout.
