Overview
The 2-day programme was highly structured with several interactive sessions on improving teaching skills and self development along with some detailed information about the training programme Teach first provides. There was a great balance between practical work (a continuous stream of activities with others which also aided with networking) and information provided.
Skills
Self development was a large focus of the programme and I can personally say I somewhat enhanced my interaction skills as well as self-reflection skills. While self reflection might not sound exciting, through this programme you get to understand and see for yourself how important it is at the end of the day. The people at Teach first made everyone feel very comfortable and there was an opportunity for everyone to interact.
Business Insight
It was truly exciting as we were introduced firsthand to people who went through the training programme and did the same taster session as us so it was easy to relate and felt less biased. By getting to ask them questions directly, I think I was able to learn a lot about the company and I already feel that I know enough to join the business and training programme.
Culture
The ambience was quite cozy yet professional. Every one of the presentors and people involved were very passionate and approachable and made the experience as smooth as possible.
Your Impressions
I truly enjoyed the insight not just because of getting a taster to teaching and learning about the importance of TeachFirst into education, but also because I had the opportunity to network and develop a lot of the skills which I do not get a chance to develop much at university.
Yes
I would first advise making sure you have researched about Teach First and understand the truly great goals Teach First is trying to achieve through its work. Secondly, I would advise not worrying if the person applying doesn't feel like the ideal teacher. The skills you learn from Teach First go far beyond teaching.
