Overview
This was a 2 day programme with the first focused on introducing the Teach First mission and the key teaching skills, we also planned an 8 minute lesson. Then on day 2 we did some more personal development work and taught our lesson to a small group of our peers and a TF assessor who gave us detailed feedback.
Skills
We focussed mainly on the 7 teach first competencies but I feel like I gained a lot of confidence in myself to put my ideas forward and join in discussions where before I potentially would have just listened. I also think I was able to better understand the responsibility and impact you have on student lives as a teacher.
Business Insight
We were given a very clear set of next steps that we can action if we chose to pursue a career with Teach First. We also gained a lot of insight into what life might be like as a Teach First trainee
Culture
The culture was wonderful, all the staff were extremely friendly and willing to share their experiences and answer any questions that you had. It felt like a non-judgmental space to learn and try out teaching a lesson for the first time.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at the Taster Programme and I feel like I have come away with a great experience and a better idea of what I want to do in my future. The whole experience was great - the food and the venue was lovely and the financial aid Teach First provide for travel and hotel stay mean that there are no barriers to joining in.
Yes
Use the help of the recruiter that will contact you and really think about how you can work to improve childrens' prospects in line with the teach first mission.
