    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Within the role of an actuary, everyday was slightly different which was nice as you never got bored of doing the same job. I would be working on Excel & WTW's own software creating my own spreadsheets, graphs & calculations which would be used in the projects. I would be in constant contact with my Project managers so they would be updated of my progress.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • As a result of the internship, my excel skills have really improved with the help of being on there everyday. I have gained skills in WTW's own software which is helpful as well when working on client topics. My overall knowledge of the Insurance industry has improved as well & I have a much greater understanding as we were invited to different talks about current hot topics in the Industry.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given the independence of completing the tasks that had been set by my Project Managers. They were always available on Email & Teams so I could keep them updated on my progress. I could easily ask for help from them & they were happy to help if I was to be stuck but I was given the freedom to complete tasks by myself.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There was lots of support during the Internship albeit from your Line Managers, Project Managers, buddy's & other employees. Everyone in the office was approachable & you could ask for help from everyone who were all happy to help. We would have meetings with Managers as frequently as we liked to discuss work or even have a general catch-up.

  • The company culture is really nice & friendly. Everyone is approachable & it allows you to yourself. You're treated as an equal and as employee not just an intern which makes the experience even better. You were encouraged to work from home if you would like as well which was nice to have the freedom of choosing where you wanted to work from.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed the Internship & would recommend it to anyone who is looking at the possibility of becoming an Actuary as it will give you a good insight into the day to day life of one. Even if you're not too sure on being an actuary I would encourage you to apply as it has been a great experience. The other employees are a bonus as they're all very likeable & approachable.

  • 7. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to WTW
  • I'd advise people to get involved in as much as possible, like attending socials so you can meet other employees in the team. Don't worry if you've never had any experience with Coding or Excel as there is training which allows you to ask lots of questions & develop your skills. Most importantly, make sure you ask questions, everyone is happy to answer there is no such thing as a stupid question.
