    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Part of a business improvement team who would look to improve company procedures in order to generate revenue and grow as we as reduce costs and effort. Daily tasks such as data analysis, data mining, stakeholder meetings, process briefing, powerpoint presentations and idea mapping. Daily interactions tended to be my immediate team (3 of us) as well as partnering companies and seniors of CityFibre also involved in various ongoing projects. A mixture of both internal and external interactions is key for this role. Responsibilities: project management, data analysis, powerpoint design, leading meetings, people management (agency staff occasionally required). Numerous project including the switch over of an entire department to soft phones from desk phones and a new migrations process development which will generate the company millions in the near future.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • New skills I have developed from this role are endless! One thing I have definitely developed is confidence within my ability. Within this team you are given a high level of responsibility with tasks, some which are even solo projects. This meant that I had to do a lot of work myself and there wasn't any superiors to hide behind - I would say tis is one of my greatest take aways from the placement and am grateful I had the opportunity to have such high responsibility within the company. As data handling is required of the role, my excel and powerpoint skills have developed immensely as well as my design approach on presenting these to specific parties. This is something you can take into any data role in the future with great experience. Other skills: Communication, Teamwork, Diligence, Time management, Organisational skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given huge levels of responsibility which I can only say is a massive positive from this placement year. I had projects which I lead myself - meaning I had to control meetings including external stakeholders and executive members both internally and externally. This level of responsibility gave me great exposure to the business and gave me great confidence that what I was working on meant something. I can put monetary figures on my contribution to the business and how I have done my part to help us grow which is really motivating.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Despite having to be independent in some scenarios the support and guidance you receive is above and beyond. If I ever had any issues within my specific role or within my role at the company both my immediate team and HR were extremely helpful. This makes you fell very comfortable within your time here. There is also the opportunity to be part of a member programme which is something I was involved in - connecting you to other embers of the business from different areas who you can catch up with and get guidance from.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • CityFibre's company culture is one of the best I have experienced and was far better than I anticipated. There are plenty of social events to remove the aspect of work and enjoy some time with our colleagues. There are also a few company wide events which highlight how great the company as a whole are as you can get caught up in your small segment. Everyone was extremely friendly and approachable but also remained very professional.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year - it was far better than I could have imagined and a sad to be leaving! The work I have been doing has helped me establish a vision for what I want to do with my future career (hopefully at CityFibre!) something I was unsure about before the role. The team I have worked in have been excellent and I hope to be part of a team like that in the future. I would have no hesitation going back.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to CityFibre
  • The interview process for CityFibre is one of the smoothest I had experienced. The interview process was the best I had had. I was made to feel very at ease and that my answers were valued as well as them wanting to know me as a person not just why im good for the role. On day one you have nothing to worry about. They make you feel welcome right away and as a new(ish) company a lot of people are relatively new to the company anyway! So you won't feel left out. The work CityFibre are doing to benefit the UK's infrastructure is amazing and it's a great opportunity to be part of something so impactful.
