  • Assisting on any aspect of a project within the Strategic Advisory remit, learning and producing work on behalf of the company for the client, this could be solving a business issue that a client is currently facing, or proposing ideas to a client for a specific project, for example, providing ideas and solutions for a leveling up project in a specific area working with the local council(s).

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Definitely more proficient at using excel and report writing. Away from the technical side i would say that this specific role really requires you to think outside the box and explore many avenues which is definitely something I have tried to develop and hope I have to some degree.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, almost immediately i was involved in helping populate a bid report that needed to be delivered to a client regarding a piece of work that the company wanted to take on. This was in my first few days. From there, I was tasked with collecting large amounts of data regarding the socio-economic climate of the areas within my first project, i was then tasked with analysis of this data. All given in week 1.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of support, from my line manager to the SLT and other colleagues, everyone was prepared to answer your questions, reach out to see how you were getting on and sharing their own work and research if they felt this would help you and your work. Everyone was prepared to explain things to you as many times as you need and always made time to accommodate you even on short notice.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Culture was great, specifically in my business unit, the vibe was an upbeat one and one that accommodated for a more relaxed environment whilst also not compromising the work that had to be done. This helped us placement students a lot as it made everyone approachable which is beneficial for us if we have questions or concerns or anything of that nature.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • All in all i would definitely say i enjoyed the placement, I would also say to be prepared that it will not be an easy ride, there will be things expected of you and you do need to deliver work and show initiative, but due to the temporary, experience based nature of the role everyone is very patient and willing to make you feel part of the team straight away.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Mace
  • I think Mace prides itself on being a company that values initiative and creativity, if you want a place where someone is going to tell you what to do and that is exactly that, no more and no less then this isn't for you. intuitiveness and initiative is what really adds value to the business where you can deliver a fresh way of thinking. This is what i've taken from my colleagues anyway.
