    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I support the team where and when I can. A couple roles exclusive to me are: • Filling demand for product information and supplying this information to consumers who request it. • Composing the forecasted figures and total sales out of the company weekly. Then presenting the findings to the retail team. Daily, I'll interact with a fair majority of the retail team. This includes departments such as Key Accounts/Sales and Trade Marketing. I also interact with external consumers such as Currys, AO, Amazon, John Lewis, and other firms that sell home appliances. I am responsible for protecting and supplying confidential information on the daily and supporting the team through admin-based tasks for every team member on the hierarchy. Certain projects include; • Presenting a core value of the company to the CEO and CFO. • Doing field work and analysing social aspects of consumers and where they can improve. • Temporarily had to fill in my managers position as Key Account Coordinator after her departure.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Discipline: Before joining I didn't realise how un-disciplined I was. I struggled following orders, I had little self-control and esteem, and struggled to get into the working mindset. This skill has developed significantly, the placement has essentially forced me to become more disciplined not only in working life but in personal life also. Presenting: Leading from my last skill, I had little confidence before joining. Now, after multiple learning opportunities provided, I am a confident presenter in any given situation. Data analytics: Before joining, I was comfortable with data. Yet, joining this company has shown me how major corporations manage big data and now my mindset around data analytics has changed significantly and for the better.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Naturally, to begin with, no. I was monitored frequently and not really trusted to do bigger tasks. Yet, this is normal for someone my age with little working experience starting a new job. Towards the end of my placement now however, I am trusted to do almost anything my department has in store. Currently, filling in for my ex-managers role has given me a lot of responsibility as it's a big load to carry with a lot of tasks like communicating with consumers without being monitored shows how trustworthy and responsible I've become over time.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • To begin with, a lot. So much that a majority of it I did take for granted and when I was off my probation period, the support and guidance started to dull down the more I was trusted with day-to-day tasks.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I was very impressed with the working culture and atmosphere here at BSH. Everyone that I've met had been very supportive and helpful. I've not witnessed any passive-aggressive conversations which normally you can frequently find in a large company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I mainly enjoyed the learning opportunities provided which has enhanced my self-development. This placement has taught me more about working life than I could imagine, how to get into a routine (not just with working life but with personal life also) and knowledge I can apply to multiple companies.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BSH
  • Treat it like any other job to begin with. Because your expectations are likely going to be diverted anyway. With the working culture here you will likely be pleasantly surprised but just like any other first day at a new job, just do your best and get on with the work.
