    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am responsible for assisting in the management of the finances, forecasting and resourcing of a number of contracts within a portfolio. I communicate with senior member of the portfolio, as well as the client, to ensure that financial forecasting is as accurate as possible.

  • I have learnt lots of new financial terms and processes, built on my excel skills, and learnt developed my technical skills through YourLearning, which is an IBM learning platform, with lots of different courses on topics such as Cloud, AI and Garage.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I feel like I have been treated like an IBM employee, not an intern, and given lots of responsibility, with internal IBM processes, as well as given the opportunity to work with the client, which has made the placement really enjoyable.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I have a task manager, who I am able to talk to about my day to day responsibilities, as well as a foundation manager, who looks after welfare/learning and any other issues. I received lots of support from both managers throughout the year.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I have been a part of the sport and recreation community, as well as being involved in the intern community. It was an inclusive environment, and both were very enjoyable.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement, the work has been challenging, but rewarding, as I have been able to work and make connections with senior employees at IBM. I was given a lot more responsibility than expected, and have applied to the graduate scheme, hoping to return once I finish university.
