Overview
Real responsibility to work directly with partners on client matters from day one. Everyone at the firm takes great interest in you and your development. Varied tasks including contract review, legal research, attending client meetings and drafting documents.
Skills
Opportunity to develop a number of different skills: - Networking and presentation skills, through sessions with a brilliant external coach. Real life networking and assessed group presentation to panel gave opportunity to put this into practice. - Commercial awareness, through hearing from International Group Heads on the latest industry trends. - Legal skills, through working on real client work. - Confidence, through meeting a wide variety of people.
Business Insight
In-depth insight into the business and the routes of progression available. Heard from a different speaker at least once a day, often very senior individuals with long careers at DLA. Opportunities to work in an international office or on a client secondment were discussed frequently, as was personal and professional development.
Culture
Highly welcoming and open culture. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and down to earth.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the internship. An incredibly well organised experience which gave a real insight into life at the firm and offered a wide array of experiences. Particular highlights included: networking dinners; inspirational speakers during induction; practice group insights; external coach for networking and presentation skills.
