    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked in a development group that involved working on a React.js application on majority of the days and other days managing the cloud deployment and hooking up the API's required by the app via the back-end. Training is interlaced through out the placement.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned the React framework, how API's work and improved my professionalism in a team. Previously, I had never done any cloud deployment, which is another new method I gained a better understanding and practical experience on. Recently, I have learned about micro-front ends and the pros and cons attributed to that method of creating a web app

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility as I was working on a web app that our fellow IBMers and clients will access and use. Furthermore, I volunteered for more responsibility as I took charge of publishing monthly newsletters about our team and I also worked with a group of interns to help develop a new modern version of the Foundation Journal app based on React.js

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received plenty of support from my supervisor and my foundation manager as they were a slack message away. I could always get a hold of them or my colleagues for help. And the intern Q & A answered any questions I had in their monthly meetings.
