    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had my task manager and foundation manager. In general my task manager was far more helpful as she knew what tasks I was doing but my foundation manager was there for support via fortnightly team calls or I could drop him a message. More so though everyone I met/had contact with was always more than willing to help and support me if needed.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In general it is a good company culture. It's one that supports your learning and I found it to be very much "there are no stupid questions". A minority of people higher up were very very poor at answering emails which can be frustrating as it made there seem to be a culture higher up that the work we were doing was less important but in general it was a healthy and welcoming culture.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement and I have gained lots of experiences that will benefit me in the future. Towards the middle it began to get repetitive but that's when I expanded out so definitely reach out if you have capacity. It was a role I couldn't do forever but as I knew it was only for a year I was happy to complete it. At the end when uni friends have finished and have a more flexible schedule it was harder working 9-5 but in general I enjoyed it and 100% worth doing

  • 7. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • Do some research on IBM as a whole - their long term strategy and any recent news articles. Make sure you emphasise their key values - in particular client focus and show a real willingness to learn. You do not have to be technically inclined to apply at all just show an interest. I knew nothing about technology in the grand scheme of things but showed an interest and was happy in my business placement
