    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • The insight involved shadowing senior managers during client meetings and also working with them on tasks that had been set day-to-day. Some of these tasks involved learning specific Excel commands that are commonly used on the job as well as preparing for client meetings. Preparing for client meetings involved researching specific area(s) of a business and formatting our findings into a document that would accompany us to the meeting where we would then take minutes. We were given time to look over our minutes afterwards.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt a lot of new skills during the three days. One of the most valuable skills that I learnt was, as previously mentioned, the Excel commands as I can apply this knowledge to other insights and further experiences. I also learnt the importance of putting yourself out there - no question is a silly question! Everyone was so happy and willing to help you if you had any query and this affirmed the power of the phrase.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • We were very well informed about what the placement/insight was, what it would lead to and how we could develop on our learnings outside of the insight. We met a variety of people over the three days who were all in very different stages of their career; some were in very senior positions such as partners of the company and some were associates. No matter their experience, we learnt about how they had got to where they were so far.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was extremely friendly and open, I couldn't have asked for better people to have shadowed. As part of the three day experience I had a 30 minutes of fun session, where people from my line of service came together to play a game, and this was a great way to feel relaxed in a professional environment as well as a way to not feel intimidated by senior figures. I would recommend the insight to anyone.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight, I felt well supported and challenged, but not to a breaking point. We were all eased into the three days so that nobody felt anxious or apprehensive about what was to come, which is important given the professionalism of the company. It could have been improved, however, with even one day in the office or a half day, just to have experience of what the atmosphere is like in person.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • My advice would be to go into the insight with a very open mind. I found personally that PwC was not at all as intimidating as many people would assume and think that if you went into it with that mindset, you may find the insight disappointing. There is also a lot of downtime and it's hard to make the most of it, I would advice that you simply ask your manager if there is something else you can do.
