    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responsibilities as an analyst include working within excel to clean and analyse client data, in order to produce meaningful insights and information that is used to produce a due diligence report. Key analysis includes the creation of intramonth cash, normalised P&L, normalised NWC, top customer analysis, P&L and balance sheet breakdowns etc. Other responsibilities include drafting commentary for due diligence reports, and engaging in client calls and meetings.

  • During my placement at RSM as a corporate finance analyst, I have furthered my understanding of Excel and PowerPoint, learning key functions that allow for the analysis of client data. I have also continued to develop key soft skills such as working within a team and communicating effectively with clients.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • RSM give their placements key responsibilities from day one. As a placement, you are given the responsibility of analysing data and producing tables and charts, and drafting key supporting commentary that end up in final due diligence reports. However, your team is always supportive and available to advise or help you if needed.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • As a placement you are allocated a line manager and a project manager that may change from project to project. Both are always available to support and guide you during your placement year, and signpost you to additional internal training. You will also have an appraisal half way through your placement, which allows you to reflect on your progress and experience at RSM and identify any areas of development with your line manager.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere and culture at RSM is really positive. During my placement, I got involved in several volunteering and social events, which were rewarding and a great opportunity to meet people from different service lines and offices. There were also frequent optional webinars on mental wellbeing, diversity and inclusion.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at RSM. I was given key responsibility from day one and really felt like I was part of the team. The work I was doing was meaningful and engaging, and there was always opportunity to learn and develop key skills. Given the opportunity, I would definitely return to RSM as a graduate.

  • Research RSM and the market that it operates in, ie. RSM 's goal is to become the leading advisor in the Mid-Market, and try not to be nervous during the application process as RSM value personality and genuine interest over technical experience/knowledge. Think about how your personality aligns with RSM's core values.
