    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I create sales reports for the team, lead meetings with buyers to discuss future opportunities, work closely with supply chain to ensure our supply to customers remains high and our forecasts are being accounted for. I am also in charge of the financial parts of my area. I have to ensure we have enough accrued and everything is paid correctly

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed so many skills: negotiation, time management, Excel, understanding on P&Ls, as well as so many more. Something I learnt that I didn't think would be so valuable is just how to handle working in a corporate environment

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I became the go to person in the department for help on internal transformation. I looked after the Marmite account for Tesco and I was in charge of all the financials for the foods portfolio on the Tesco account. I also negotiated new promotional activity for Tesco

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of support. My line manager and I had weekly catch up but he was always on hand if I needed him, as were the rest of my team. I was given a mentor and before I joined I had a buddy. There is a whole team dedicated to those on placement, apprentices and grads who are there to help us develop and also offer guidance and support

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture there is very kind. Everyone is very understanding that as a placement student I didn't know much when I first started. There are many different group to push diversity initiatives, they partner with local schools and charities and host many social events. They also actively discourage over working and offer summer hours when we can finish work at 3pm on a friday

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have loved my placement. I have loved the work I have been doing as I can see the impact it has, my team have been incredible and always there to help and that is true of the whole company culture. I never thought I'd get so much responsibility which has been great and if offered I would love to go back

  • 7. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • Be yourself and do your research. Find something you find particularly interesting about Unilever and know about why you find it interesting. They want to know about you and see you're interested. Don't worry about not being knowledgeable enough when you start as you will get so much training and everyone understands that you are a student and won't have all the understanding you need straight away
