    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I review documentation that feeds the creation and review of test procedure. I then action these procedures in a testing rig on site, taking note of any issues with the system under test, or with the procedure. I relay these issues back to Systems Engineers who process them and return them to the manufacturer. This process occurs over multiple releases a year

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Many of the skills I have learnt have been specific to the department I have been working in. They are also specific to large industries that have the time to iterate slowly and carefully, this is a lot different to any testing I undertook at University. However, my soft skills such as time management, presentation, communication, and people skills have all certainly improved

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager was excellent in providing me with training to do, both directly and indirectly benefitting my work. I was provided with a mentor who also gave me a lot of suggestions in terms of short and long term guidance. There is also a great early careers community in Portsmouth that were useful for both personal and professional support in the new role

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Since more people are returning after covid, the culture is improving. I am lucky to be on a young team with similar interests and we get on really well in the office. Honestly I never expected office culture to appeal as it seemed a bit lame, but I've been proven pleasantly wrong
