    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role involves building Cif's global strategy (specifically focused on Cif's purpose and our brand key) and then collaborating with other functions to ensure we see this executed in markets. I have also done some work on clean future which is all about driving better environmental practises within Cif and our products. The most recent work I am doing on this is biodegradable fragrances.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt key skills in collaboration and communication as this is integral when working with so many functions holding different opinions. Increased skills in organisation, specifically when I had to plan a 3 day workshop. Increased powerpoint skills due to the amount of presentations I've had to put together.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a high amount of responsibility and am often reminded by my line manager that someone of my status wouldn't usually be given a job that is so influential on the brand - this being strategy. In addition, I have spent the last 4 months without a direct LM meaning I have had full responsibility over the work I have been doing

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line manager was highly supportive throughout my placement, but also encouraged wanted me to try and figure things out on my own before coming to her for advice. I also had a highly supportive team who I knew I could ask any question whenever I needed to

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture is really welcoming and you are never left to feel unwanted or like the work you are doing is invaluable. It's very friendly and there is no hierarchal feel to the organisation (e.g., not once have I been made to feel like the youngest/that I am inferior to others)

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have really enjoyed it - the work I have done and the people I have been doing it with. There were times where I found I was lacking in work but that is because my team was undergoing a restructuring. I also found I enjoyed work much more when we started going into office again as I could build better bonds with my team

  • 7. Would you recommend Unilever to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • Your personality is a key component to your success in getting the role. Make sure you ask lots and lots of questions when you first begin as it is the only way you will learn. Use your connections to network as there are a lot of different opportunities at unilever. It is slower work pace than I expected
