The Role
I have found this placement to be very rewarding, I have significantly enhanced the skills and knowledge gained whilst studying towards a Business Studies Degree. I have enjoyed my experience so much so that I would definitely like to return to Westlands following graduation.
The departments I worked within were very helpful and friendly; I was able to develop good relationships with many of my colleagues and gained their appreciation/ respect through doing so.
I gained great support from both my supervisors who were both helpful and approachable.
In the main my work load has been manageable and forthcoming.
Due to the high value nature of the business, despite being responsible for producing proposal documents for example, they would be approved and authorised prior to release.
I feel I have significantly enhanced the skills and knowledged gained whilst studying towards a Business Studies Degree in particular the knowledge and skills gained whilst studying a project management unit.
The Company
Despite being the youngest person within my office (probably by at least 10 years) the office morale was very good. I was able to get on with and have a laugh/ joke with many of my colleagues.
The placement was quite well organised, I was told the departments in which I'd be working within at least a few weeks before my scheduled start date. Regular reviews were held between myself and my supervisor which would be reviewed by the training department.
I have not attended any formal training, having said this I have learnt a great deal from my supervisor and colleagues.

There is a strong possibility of a graduate job with Westlands, either via the training department or through my current manager.
The Culture
Yes there are a group of 19 Undergraduates at Westland, all of whom get on very well and have regular nights out. There is also a student association which consists of appox 150 people (apprentices and undergrads) which arranges various activities throughout the year e.g. bowling, paint-balling or trips to the beach.
I have been able to live with parents during my placement year, therefore not 100% sure of cost of living. Having said this, talking to fellow undergrads the cost of renting etc in Yeovil is resonable. In terms of nightlight, for a smallish town Yeovil has quite a bit to offer, quite a range of shops, bowling, cinema, a variety of resturants and a few clubs.
As I commute into work, I rarely go out in Yeovil, but it has a variety of bars on offer which are OK!
In terms of the Student association scheme yes, as I'm not a local not sure about activities in Yeovil.
