    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • We attended three days of this programme, and had the opportunity to hear talks from different solicitors from different departments, for example Pro Bono and Litigation. We also engaged in a workshop where we were given a case study and assigned different tasks, e.g. negotiator or research analyst.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was extremely interesting as we learned about a variety of different roles in different departments. DLA especially funds and supports various initiatives that aim to improve and encourage diversity and inclusion. It made me realise that within the commercial law area there are several sub divisions that span fields such as tax, energy and infrastructure.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. We were well looked after, and it was obvious that a lot of money had been spent in order to provide us with the best possible experience. From the trainee panel I understood that the firm really invests in its workers and cares about their interests outside of the firm.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
  • If you’re able to, attend a programme or open day and speak to the people who work there. It will allow you to ask any questions you have about the firm and to tap directly into the experience of the people who work there. If you are applying for the vacation scheme, make sure to prepare the best you can for the assessment centre by doing practice tests.
