    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I support internal and community-based communications. On the day to day, I manage 3 of our social media accounts and coordinate, curate and create content for these channels. I produce copy for internal and external print publications and edit those from time to time. I manage central email communications and host weekly planning meetings. I assist with the community programme and distribute donations and payments accordingly. Etc.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes. I have developed my tone of voice and general writing skills by producing a range of copy for a variety of different internal and external platforms, for varying audiences. I have gained a deeper knowledge of the steel industry and learnt to interpret niche topics and turn them into something simple and digestible for external audiences. I have also developed my interviewing and video shooting skills, whilst gaining experience in planning /hosting podcast episodes.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. Although the majority of my placement has been spent working remotely, my team has always been there to ask how they can better support and guide me. They constantly ask and remind me that I can become more involved in as many areas of the business as I like. My Line Manager is extremely supportive and thoughtful.

They are very enthusiastic and are keen for you to learn more. The same cannot be said for the wider European culture, from what I have learnt.
